Talmud Torah of St. Paul

Where critical thinking
and Jewish values intersect

Parent Testimonial:

One day, at Newman School, I watched our child sitting with others, working diligently on an art project. It was Purim, and the class was cutting, coloring, and gluing what would become Queen Esther puppets. Throughout the lesson, the children volunteered their thoughts about what the Purim story meant to them. Taking action and helping others were among the themes expressed. Hebrew words were peppered in and practiced. And then the kids danced around the room with their queens and other characters, singing and laughing. It was a lesson layered with art, music, motor skills, language, history, and values all rolled into one. And it was fun. That much was certain.

From the day our child started at Newman, we saw a distinctly happier kid, excited to share new Hebrew words and songs, and share stories about class activities and outdoor adventures. Having come from a more crowded setting, it was clear she’d found a voice she never knew she had. Like all children at Newman, she found herself celebrated for her individuality. We watched her confidence soar.

It’s clear to us now that her classroom is a holistic community of learners. The students are not only nurtured and valued, they learn to nurture and value others. Field trips like going to the nursing home and the nature center support those values — mitzvot in action. The children how to work together and value one another: together they create gym games, design science experiments, select and read stories, create group art, and celebrate Shabbat.

Our child took to Newman as though it were the most natural, wonderful learning environment possible. And, for this family, it is.
