TTSP Leadership Announcement

March 15, 2024

The Talmud Torah of St. Paul is eager to share some good news with our community! Liz Palmer has accepted the position of Executive Director and has committed to leading us in alignment with our mission. The Board of Directors have unanimously authorized and approved her appointment and are confident that she will lead the organization effectively.

Liz comes with a rich and varied background in and out of the nonprofit sector. For the past three and a half years has been a consultant with Mighty Consulting, the leader in nonprofit Interim Leadership in the Twin Cities, which “supports organizations as they grapple with internal and external change, leaving them stronger and more focused on the other side.” The experience of stepping into organizations during some of their most trying times has set Liz up with honed skills and tested processes as well as a keen understanding of the warmth and compassion that communities need as they face change.

Jared Miller, Board President, has worked closely with Liz since she arrived as the Interim Executive Director and wants to let our community of supporters know that “Liz is an intuitive, empathetic leader, highly skilled at building teams and running nonprofits. She is the leader we need at this critical moment. As interim director, Liz undertook a major administrative reorganization that modernized Talmud Torah and made it a fantastic place to work and learn. She is passionate about Talmud Torah’s mission and knows how to get the work done. I am thrilled to have her on board.”

Liz is humbled and honored to have garnered such trust and will carry that trust dutifully. “I care about this place. I truly do. I care about what it has been, what it promises to be and what it can be for and with the Jewish community of St Paul and beyond.” As a native New Orleanian, she wants y’all to know that she is all in and cannot wait to learn from you, meet you, partner with you and show up for you. Educational community assets are a treasure, and she will treat TTSP as such.

Please join us as we welcome Liz to the team and join with us as we set our path toward our commitment to nurture life-long learners, passionate about Jewish tradition, committed to Jewish community and devoted to the well-being of all people.

More About Liz Palmer

Liz Palmer is a seasoned professional who has worked in leadership in the Twin Cities Nonprofit community and Operations and Auditing in the for-profit sector. She specializes in organizational leadership and change management. Her strategic mindset tunes into the heart of a place and then identifies opportunities to set organizations up for success. Although she has invested in formal education as a student at St. Kate’s in Communication Studies, the Hubert Humphrey Institute in Public Affairs and Metro State in Technical Writing, her deepest learning has come from parenting her six, now adult, children. Outside of work, you will find her amongst family and friends at her table, close to any body of water, or doting on her first grandson.

She lives and works with one leadership strategy as her guide: Listen. Learn. Listen again. Lead. Little Canada is her current home, but her New Orleans’ roots and culture are what ground her. As a daughter of professors, serving an educational institution is a natural fit. While she did not grow up Jewish, her first paycheck, at 11, came from the JCC in New Orleans where she was a camp counselor for 6 years (if you want to start a Hebrew camp-song sing-along, she is here for it!) and saw firsthand how Jewish families leaned into their traditions, invested in exposing their children to Hebrew and Biblical instruction, and committed deeply to the members of their community. The impact of this exposure was profound. As an ally, Liz will commit to nurturing and growing the promise that was made to the Jewish Community back in 1956, when Talmud Torah of St Paul was established as an institution of community learning.
