"Eyes of Fire" Towards a Nourishing Spirituality

Date: Thursday, May 23; 7:00 - 9:00 pm

Leader: Rabbi Sara Brandes and Sara Lynn Newberger

Location: Talmud Torah of St. Paul

The holiday of Lag B’Omer marks the death of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, the famed author of the Zohar, who is told to have exited 12 years of solitude with eyes of fire that could destroy the world. Sent back to contemplate his errors, he must find a mode of practice that nourishes rather than destroys. In this evening of study and practice, we will play with and reflect upon those modes of spirituality that help us to soften and cultivate balance.

Ordained at JTS, Rabbi Sara Brandes is Executive Director of Or HaLev: Center for Jewish Spirituality and Meditation, and author of Magical World: Stories, Reflections, Poems. She makes her home with her family on the pluralistic Kibbutz Hannaton, in the north of Israel.
